Stare into the smokebox.
TL;DR

Friends get together on Kast and Discord roughly every other Saturday night to watch and snark at a double-feature of uncensored b-horror/sci-fi films.

Origins

Tenebris Somniorum, which means "the darkness of dreams," was created during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic stay-at-home orders to allow friends to socialize virtually and ignore the chaos of the world around them. Although the pandemic has since eased, the world's chaos has persisted, and so has Tenebris Somniorum.

The first episode streamed June 20th, 2020 and appropriately debuted with two sequels: Critters 2 and Gremlins 2.

Format

Showings are typically Saturday nights, beginning at 9:00pm Eastern / 8:00pm Central / 7:00pm Mountain / 6:00pm Pacific. They wrap up 3 to 3.5 hours later, depending on the length of the films.

Kast is used for video streaming. Discord is used for chatting. See the | Join | page for links to these services.

The double-features often have a theme. For example, The Funhouse and Ghoulies II (both set in amusement parks) or Terrorvision and The Video Dead (both using TVs as central plot devices). Yes, suggestions are welcome, but a film has yet to be shown twice. See the | History | page for a running list of shown films.

Separating the films are usually classic commercials and commercials that fit the theme (to give that 80s/90s late-night cable feeling), as well as other short videos occassionally. There is also a 3 minute intermission for bathroom breaks and drink/snack refills.

Content & Trigger Warning

Films are shown uncensored and the credits run in full (so we know who to blame). Many films are from an era with outdated social standards. This means the content includes frequent gore, nudity, misogyny, homophobia, sexual violence, and slurs that have (rightfully!) fallen out of use.

While shock value is a consideration in film choice, there is NOT a focused effort to show the most extreme and disturbing content available. If something is particularly egregious, a warning will be made in the film's description, when the upcoming films are announced.
